A numeric value (reference number) that is assigned to a specific document reference (part, subassembly, or assembly in an assembly document). Each unique document reference is assigned the unique reference number. Subsequent placements of that object (called occurrences) receive the same Item number. Item numbers are saved with the assembly and are available for downstream use, for example, in PMI balloons placed on the model and in ballooned parts lists on an assembly drawing.
