in-place activation

The process used for editing a part or subassembly document within the context of the document in which it was placed.

When working in an assembly, to in-place activate a part or subassembly, select the part or subassembly within PathFinder or the graphics window, and then click the Edit command on the shortcut menu. You can also double-click a part to in-place activate it.

When you use the Edit command to in-place activate a part or subassembly within an assembly, you can also view the other parts in the assembly.

When working in a drawing, you can double-click a drawing view on a drawing sheet, and the document it was created from is opened in the proper Solid Edge environment. For example, if you double-click a drawing view of a part, the Solid Edge Part environment is opened. When you close the part or assembly document, you are returned to your drawing sheet.
